Trainspotting-Bar fight scene

Bar Fight Scene (London)
Begins-1:18:25
Ends-1:22:23

The scene begins with Renton, Begbie, Spud and Sick boy talking around a table in a bar in London discussing the money they made and what they will do with it going forward. Throughout the scene it keeps to low-key lighting making it seem that some thing bad may happen. The scene also is filled with diegetic sound from people talking in the background and music from a radio (not shown). At the start of the scene Renton and Spud are sat opposite Begbie and Sick Boy as well as the camera switching between the two pairs which can be seen as a metaphor and foreshadowing of how Renton and Spud are going to be the only ones to have money by the end of the film, this is also referenced to multiple times during the scene such as when Begbie threatens them for if they steal the money and when Sick Boy says he would have took the money and ran, which again separates the four characters showing Begbie and Sick Boy as bad and Spud and Renton as good even though Renton and Spud discuss if they should actually steal the money but they are still seen as 'good' as we are constantly reminded about how bad Sick Boy and especially Begbie compared to Renton and Spud

Next Begbie walks into a man and spills this beer over his suit, he then starts shouting and blaming the man which could be because of the money he just gained he now believes he is better than the other man, during this Spud tries to calm Begbie down again showing him as a 'good' character. Then Begbie drops three of his pints as doing so the music in the background stops indicating that something bad, then it cuts to Renton where he sighs and turns around showing that he knows Begbie is going to do something and also telling the viewers that it will as well during this Renton has also been distanced from the rest of the group showing us how different he is to the others. Begbie then shoves his pint into the mans neck and proceeds to beat the man, during this the camera work switches between high and low angle shots showing Begbie as the dominant force in the fight giving him a sense of power for the character and the viewers.

After this Spud tries to stop Begbie, during this Begbie cuts Spuds hand the use of diegetic sound of spud screaming emphasises the scene and makes it seem worse than it actually is also while cutting to a close up shot of Renton and using the mise-en-scene of his performance to emphasis again his clear differences from the group and also showing his disgust through his facial expressions and the close up camerawork. The following scenes are Begbie threatening the rest of the people in the pub showing again his dominance through intimidation and performance of the actor as well as when he gets a smoke of Renton showing how he can get them to d what he wants.
